Well my stories (2) are no where near as crazy as your guys.
Last summer I was shore fish and saw a guy catch a couple of small perch, so switched from my 50 lb leader 7/0 to a store tryed leader and a #1 hook. Five minutes later I get a bight and instantly know it is a Batray, well since I have 15 lb leader I had to baby the drag, but luckly I knew I had 350 yards of 80 lb braid backing, so after probably 125-150 yards the ray slowed. I started working him back and after 20 minutes I have him in the weight wash of the shore break and decide to make a final pull to get him out of the waves. Well pop goes my leader, so I drop the rod and run into 3 feet of water and spread my legs so he can't go through. Once he bumped into my legs I realized that these guys have huge barbed stings, so I got the heck out of the water. And walked back to the crowd of on lookers wet and empty handed, luckly without a barb in my leg.
About 2 years ago I was fishing below a dam and hook a really nice trout, once I had him to shore. I realized I had to walk down 4 feet of slick wet cement at a 30 degree angle. Well just as I was about to grab him I slid into the water, since their were no steps all I could do was swim against this slimy cement. About 20 feet to my left was a underwater pipe covered with a steel grill to let water down to the next pool. So I am worried about this pipe sucking me down and start trying to claw my way out of this pool. Luckly my dad saw me go in and pulled me out. Only to willingly slid back in to retrieve the fish (the whole time I held my rod). It turned out to be my best trout at 22 1/4" and about 5-6 lb.
And hears to all the future tales to come.......

TRUE THAT!!
THANKS
Not a recent story or a shark one at that but this is possibly one of my most accomplished fishing moments of my short lived life (21yrs).
So it started out one cold day in December driving down to the keys with my dad to go after some grouper before the season closed for the first time (2010). We are heading down on a Saturday morning around 5am when I got off work. We arrive at the publix entering the keys right at opening and stop to pick up some drinks/food for our fishing trips. The boat (robbies) doesn't leave till 9:30 so I have him stop at some bridge before the boat just to get my line wet (he doesn't like bridge fishing lol). So I grab my 8# rod and start tossing a white xrap around the bridge. Up comes a lil 6" mangrove snapper
nothing else happened until I walked around the coner to a lil sand flat and bam a decent Cuda sitting on it. I toss the xrap bout 20 feet behind him and rip it as fast as I can right over his head and bam!!! He takes off on nasty run and then snap darn 8# test!!! By the way I'm notorious for useing way to light of line hahaha.
Anyways off to the boat now. Spent all day catching grouper ranging from 5-10lbs and my dad takes a fat lil stubby red grouper that's only 22" but is really fat!!!
But that's not the exciting part the fun comes at night as always. The capt stops at a productive spot they have got a few blacks/gags and even a 5# mutton off of. So everyone's fishing and nothing is coming over the rails but the fish finder is showing fish down there. Everyone is using 20-50# outfits so I decided to grab my 8# outfit and toss a knocker-rig on it and within 10minutes I've lost three nice hits.
Then on cast #4 I get a huge run and manage to keep him from rocking me up. Or so I though after he takes about 50yrds of line he stops and digs down into the patch reef. Everyone's like awe and the capt comes and says tough luck. But I'm a lil hardheaded teenager and I'm not letting this one get away. So I sit there playing my line like a guitar when all the sudden he takes off like a bat out of hell!!! This time I can feel the line rubbing on something (probally a seafan or something). And I'm slowly working the fish and I finaly get him straight up and down of the boat and he starts doing the mutton dance doing circles all the way up 23' of water.
Once I get him to the surface I see that beautiful pink hue and know I will be eating very good the next few nights
finally the boat mate nets the fish and I'm all smiles. Est. weight at around 10#'s caught on straight 8# test no leader
Here is the reel it all happened with not in best condition but it has seen its share of big fish and is now retired to my bait/crappie jig rod for the pier.
This just proves sometimes you have to just downgrade your tackle to get the bite and be patient.
This is my first time posting a story kind of thing so let me have any and all criticism good or bad I need it for when I start writing some shark stories soon ![]()
It's not really my cooles story. But I was fishing a saltwater pond in SC. I was getting a couple of pinfish and ladyfish to throw on the beach. I had em on a stringer and tied not very good to a bush(my mistake). I was baiting up a
Rod and hear nothing but a EXPLOSION! I look over and I see nothing but a redfish/gold mass thrashing up my stringer. No LIE. Biggest bull red I have ever seen! No shark baits that day ![]()
back last year during the BHC i was going to met jd and mark to fish with them during the same time the FDOT was working on the highway just north of long key
i get there the night before anyone else the tarpon had schooled under the bridge in the shadows from the the light the FDOT had put on the bridge hitting the greenback/treadfins under the bridge
all you could see is red eyes in the shadows so i go to the car get a lure and start throwing it to see if i could get a tarpon to play during the time i was throwing the lure i look down in the water and see the biggest shark i have ever seen in my life it looked like a mack truck under the water
i took a dead mullet and attached it to my line and slung it where i saw the shark swim by
needless to say yes i hooked up
but it was not the shark that i saw go by
but it was a small tipper
to this day i dont know what kind of shark i saw go under the bridge but i know if i hooked up with it that night i would have won the tourney
it was fat and huge
not a good post but will edit it later
